FTSD International Symposium 2023

The international symposium on Fair Trade & Sustainable Developmnt (FTSD) is a scientific event that regularly brings together researchers and practitioners who are interested and work on different aspects of fair trade and sustainable development.

It provides a forum for exchanging practices, tools, models and experiences to advance research and open up new perspectives.

For its 3rd edition, the FTSD 2023 Symposium will take place at the Higher School of Technology of the Ibn Zohr University – Agadir – Morocco

Call For Papers

Despite the difficult context of health crisis linked to the global SARS-Covid pandemic, fair trade has continued to grow. In 2022, sales amounted to 2 billion euros in Europe, continuing to grow at a double-digit rate (Berki-Kiss & Menrad, 2022). This development of fair trade has gone hand in hand with a reconfiguration of its scope and its relationships with the concepts of CSR, sustainable development, and territory (Carr et al., 2022).

Fair trade is a comprehensive approach that contributes to the implementation of the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental. It is considered, by both researchers and professionals, as a vector of sustainable development contributing to the public interest. Based on a system of certification and labeling of products, sectors, and organizations, fair trade contributes to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this perspective, fair trade can constitute an axis or an instrument of CSR practices insofar as companies have multiple ways of integrating FT into their procurement practices and valorizing them with their various stakeholders.

If FT is a driver of sustainable development and a source of social innovation for companies, the scale of territories offers perspectives for concretizing the ethical principles and sustainable development objectives aimed by fair trade in the economic, social, environmental, and governance dimensions (Marchais-Roubelat & Benbihi, 2022). In this ethical perspective, the territorial scale also contributes to questioning through practice and rethinking the concept of performance by organizations and their stakeholders (Pigé, 2015).

If the first and second editions of the Fair Trade and Sustainable Development symposiums focused respectively on the contribution of fair trade to sustainable development and on the experiences of local fair trade, this edition will be an opportunity to present research and studies on the future of fair trade between CSR and sustainable development. Beyond anticipating the behavior of ethical consumers (Lekakis, 2014), the aim is to develop the basis for research programs focused on fair trade from the prospective mobilization of stakeholders (Marchais-Roubelat and Roubelat, 2015).

This symposium intends to bring together researchers, teacher-researchers, practitioners, and professionals who work on issues related to fair trade, CSR, and sustainable development, and in related fields, based on different approaches and methodologies (qualitative, quantitative...).
